On the Hush
The Northern Quarter has never been short of Instagrammable spots with its litany of graffitied walls and shop fronts but bar and cafe, On the Hush, has taken the style inside its doors, bringing a mix of pretty floral drapery and inner-city spray-painted style to its interior. Owner David opened in November 2021 and has run a number of bars previously but for On the Hush wanted to take inspiration from the Mancunian world around him.
Cafe during the day, the food menu is a mix of brunch favourites and small plates ranging from a full On the Hush breakfast with bacon, hash browns and poached eggs to a whole baked Camembert cheese studded with rosemary and served with red onion chutney. Sweet treats like vegan biscoff pancakes sit alongside brioche French toast for the sweet-toothed.
With neon lights, a pink phone box and a garden pagoda on display in the venue on Church Street, you might think it would be easy to be distracted, but with a line up of unicorn-coloured lattes, pink hot chocolates and cocktails served in glass slippers, the drinks list vies for your attention. On Wednesdays We Wear Pink is a hazelnut-flavoured pink-hued white hot chocolate served with gold glitter and marshmallows, while you can take your coffee in a choice of pink, green, blue or lilac shades. Enjoy with house-baked cakes and brownies on the counter.
By night, On the Hush turns its attention to cocktails with every one boasting a flamboyant name. Try Fresh Off the Catwalk with flavours of grapefruit and coconut gin with basil syrup or Rum For Your Life with Bacardi, creme de banane and pineapple. Sharing cocktails are available for two or four people and are a Disney lover’s dream – Cinderella is full of pink gin and served in a glass slipper.
