Ten Streets Social
One of Liverpool’s hippest hideouts, occupying a former warehouse along the Dock Road, Ten Streets Social is worth hunting down for regular live unplugged music gigs, big screen local footy, pop-up markets, brekkie until midday and roast dinners on Sundays to 6pm.
Those breakfasts set the tone, catering for meat-eaters, pescatarians and veggie palates, as they do. As well as the full monty, there’s the likes of eggs benny or royale and chorizo eggs with butter beans. Later on, the menu goes small plates (although these small plates are quite substantial). Dishes change regularly, and the menu has seen the likes of Lake District pork and Bury black pudding sausage roll with house specials such as blind (vegan) Scouse croquettes with slaw. Gluten-free diets are well catered for, with the likes of sticky glazed teriyaki pork bites served with pak choi and a sprinkling of sesame seeds, and spiced lamb cutlets cooled by tzatziki and carrot and kale slaw. Fish might include sea bass with chorizo and bisque risotto or chunky cod loin with leeks, creamy mash and parsley sauce, while seafood looks to favourites like Spanish-inspired king prawns pilpil, sautéed in tomato, garlic and chilli, which definitely requires you to order the freshly baked focaccia to sop up the flavourful sauce. Pasta keeps the carbs coming, with both a beef ragu and a spinach and ricotta cannelloni on the go when we last checked in. Other veggie dishes include indulgent chunky fries with Parmesan and truffle, and vegan offerings might be Italian-inspired pea and mint arancini and Indian-style roasted aloo gobi curry.
Puddings range from churros and chocolate brownie to sticky toffee and crème brûlée. Something tells us we’ll need rolling home…
