The Angel at Hetton
BritishOne of the stars of TV’s The Trip with Rob Brydon and Steve Coogan – and awarded a Michelin star in 2021 – The Angel at Hetton is the original gastro pub with rooms.
It’s been on the food map for more than 30 years – but the building is truly historic, dating back to the 1400s. Look out of a creaky, uneven window and enjoy views of Cracoe Fell and Wharfdale in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
House specials change regularly but could include a “treasure” of seafood baked in pastry with lobster sauce and rare-breed suckling pig with juicy black pudding wontons.
Desserts are droolsome; orange and thyme crème brulee for example. The cheeseboard could include unpasteurised gouda-style Berwick Edge or golden Harrogate Blue. The gourmet children’s menu makes a change from the standard chicken and chips.
The wine list has won many accolades. 60 percent is French and there is a spectrum of more than 20 available by the glass. Real ale, brewed down the road at Dark Horse Brewery, is another strength.
