The Beeswing

Restaurant - Mediterranean

Wine expert Anna Tutton first put her experience of years of working around the world’s vineyards into a hospitality venture with her teeny wine bar Vin-Yard at Hatch. When Hatch’s management decided to turf out the indie booze venues and bring beverages entirely in-house, Anna got thinking about what to do next.

Collaborating with long-time pal Joe Maddock, founder of Didsbury tapas fave Pinchjo’s, they came up with The Beeswing – a casual wine bar with a menu designed to complement the curated wine list. The pair chose Kampus as the dream home for their new venture, an urban oasis at the top end of Canal Street which also boasts the likes of Nell’s Pizza, Pollen and Yum Cha.

he Beeswing is named after a tartrate sheen which forms on the surface of port and some other wines that have been hanging around for a while, also seamlessly encompassing Manchester’s famous worker bee emblem. Wines are carefully chosen by Anna with a combination of natural and conventional bottles on offer that changes regularly. Food is loosely based on the tradition of  Spanish pintxos, with a heavy Mediterranean influence, lots of olive oil, fresh veg and mild spices, perfect for nibbling alongside a glass or two, or three.

With an urban-luxe interior designed by local style guru Soo Wilkinson, the relaxed vibes, food and wine alone are enough to lure you upstairs to The Beeswing. But on a sunny day, it’s the terrace that will keep you there way longer than planned. A glorious sun trap in the city if ever there was one.
