Platt Fields Market Garden
Platt Fields Market Garden is a muddy bit of the good life in urban Manchester. It’s a fantastic community growing project, ran by Manchester Urban Diggers (MUD). You can taste the fruit (and veg) of their labours in the café and you can also buy fresh produce from their stall.
It’s a great place for kids. The café is surrounded by the market gardens so the link between what you eat and where it comes from is easy to see.
As well as volunteering opportunities, there are plenty of events to get involved with. Don’t miss the Monthly Farmer’s Markets which are on the first Sunday of each month and the special Christmas Farmer’s Markets which are a great place to buy a whole range of fresh produce and artisan food and drink.
The Christmas Farmer’s Markets are on Sunday 17 December and Friday 22 December. If it’s chilly, you can always warm up with a coffee while you browse Brussels Sprouts. There’s music and street food stalls to make doing the Big Christmas Food Shop an enjoyable part of the festive build-up.
