With a miniature railway, decent-sized playground, and hopefully soon, a reborn cafe, Manor Park in Glossop has enough going on to make it worthy of a family day out, even if you don’t live in the town.

Originally the grounds of the long-gone Glossop Hall, it’s now run by High Peak Borough Council, so it’s free entry and free parking. If you’re coming by train, it’s about a ten-minute walk from Glossop Station.

Kids will love the playground which is divided into areas for smaller and bigger kids. It borders a shallow, pebbly river that’s popular for paddling and dam building in summer.

There’s also a basketball court, a skate park, a five-a-side football pitch, bowling greens, the aforementioned miniature railway (a full day of rides is just £5), and a shiny new outdoor gym. The lawns are dotted with shade-giving trees, and there’s natural woodland around the edges, which is good for hide and seek, conker gathering and the like.

The cafe is currently closed – it’s out for tender at the moment (June 2026). In the meantime, your options for refreshments are the shop and chippy at the junction of Manor Park Road and Sheffield Road, and the lovely Shepley’s Cafe in Old Glossop. They’re all under five minutes’ walk from the park.
