Atlas Bar
Just like the Greek god of the same name, Atlas has the world on its shoulders (well, the Castlefield Viaduct, at least). You’ll find it at the Hilton end of Deansgate, holding up the railway arches.
It’s known for being one of the originals of Manchester’s modern cafe-bar scene, and for its extensive collection of gins – over 570 varieties and counting. With its industrial design and heated south-facing beer garden, it’s one of the city’s most iconic drinking spots.
Atlas has won several awards over the years, such as the Best Spirits Bar North West, the Best Bar Team North West in The Great British Pub Awards, and the Design My Night Best Beer Garden Award.
There’s a huge outdoor screen to catch the summer’s sporting events like the Euros and the Olympics. Or head there just to chill in the sunshine. Their classic Sanremo Cafe Racer Espresso Machine is the barista’s favourite for making good, strong coffee.
It’s not just about the drinks. Its all-day breakfast, brunch and lunch menu has dishes such as buttermilk pancake stack with streaky bacon, scrambled eggs and maple syrup. Or spiced lentils and oyster mushrooms on sourdough, with spinach and salsa verde.
Snacky small plates are available in the evenings: sesame chicken wings, for example, or hummus and pitta.
Atlas Bar also has its own online bottle shop, specialising in gin of course.
