Trof
Longstanding Thomas Street bar Trof has got ‘top Manchester night out’ written all over its labyrinth three stories. But it’s just as well known for its morning-after comfort feeds as its cocktails. The Sunday Roast has a reputation for greatness, and the weekend brunch menu is popular. Go for the full English breakfast or the confit duck hash with sriracha and honey glaze.
During the week, it offers small plates and burgers as well as lunch and dinner ‘plates’ such as fish and chips with curry sauce, or the vegan potato dauphinoise pie with parsley sauce, kale and leeks. A weekly-changing French toast special is always worth checking out – toppings such as gooseberry jam with whipped cream cheese, lady fingers and orange segments take it to another level.
There’s a weekly quiz on a Wednesday night and DJs mark the shift to a more upbeat, party vibe at the weekends. Drinks-wise, there’s a dedicated bourbon bar on the first floor with some American rarities as well as the familiar names. You’ll also find eight beers on tap plus a curated selection of cans and bottles.
It’s worth knowing that Trof has one of the longest happy hours in the NQ – it runs Tuesday-Friday 4pm-9pm, and includes post-work favourites such as £21 bottles of prosecco and £6 cocktails.
