Northcote
Updated: 20 March 2025
Great British Menu winner Lisa Goodwin-Allen was at the helm at Northcote for a long time, until she announced her departure in March 2025. Simon Ulph has now taken over as head chef. He worked alongside Lisa and has extensive experience in several Michelin star establishments so a smooth transition is predicted.
Expect a roving, regional smorgasbord, tempered with classic techniques and contemporary flavours. The seasonal a la carte could include native lobster ravioli with lemon, parsley and lobster cappuccino, and Lake District lamb with carrot, pine nut crumble and sheep’s curd. The gourmet tasting menus with dishes such as Yorkshire duck with sour cherry, parsnip and bacon, are the stuff special occasions are made of.
Desserts don’t let the side down and could include organic lemon with frozen meringue, thyme and limoncello, or Valrhona chocolate with blackcurrant, sour cream and crispy shards.
There’s a private dining room sponsored by Louis Roederer and the cellar, complete with some exceptional New World options, is fit for the pickiest of tasters. Bottles are hand-selected by Northcote co-founder and expert sommelier, Craig Bancroft.
The surroundings are light and sumptuous (think lambswool, leather and soft lighting) which is part of the allure – not least to Michelin inspectors.
