Shogun Ramen and Bar in Chorlton serves great value ramen. But we’ve not listed it in our guide just because it’s day-before-payday-cheap. It’s here because it does proper, traditional ramen and the folks of M21 can’t get enough of it. 

Thick slabs of pork belly are barbecued over hot coals, while broth is slow-cooked for twelve hours. The six-hour chicken broth is just as rich and satisfying, and they do a homemade shitake mushroom version for the plant-based crowd. 

Choose from authentic Japanese accompaniments such as nitamago egg, nori seaweed, and various varieties of mushroom. Or explore the rice dishes, sushi menu and ‘japas’ (it kinda works) with small plates such as gyoza, yakitori and bao to snack on. To wash it down, go for Asahi on draft, or one of the range of Japanese bottled beers and sakes.
