Mersey Ferries
Have you even been to Liverpool if you haven’t crossed the Mersey on a ferry? Mersey Ferries not only cross the Mersey back and forth but also provide tours, entertainment and private hire.
These boats are a part of Liverpool’s culture – it won’t surprise you to know that The Beatles played aboard them on The Cavern Club’s Riverboat Shuffle Cruises in 1961 and 1962.
The brightly coloured Mersey Ferry is a pop art pop of serotonin – you can’t help but smile.
Hop aboard for a River Explorer Cruise, the briefest of the offerings aimed at sightseers rather than commuters. At 50 minutes, it’s good value with unrivalled views of Liverpool’s Three Graces from the water.
Longer cruises include the Liverpool Bay Cruise which takes in the coastline, including Anthony Gormley’s Another Place and the Manchester Ship Canal Cruise, for a relaxed day on the waterways.
At night Mersey Ferries show off the bright lights of the big city from the water. Tribute bands and themed events run from May to October, covering everything from Eurovision to The Beatles. They’re a local band – you might have heard of them.
