San Carlo Fumo
Head to any of the ristorantes in the acclaimed and award-winning family-run San Carlo Group and you know you’re in for exceptional ingredients, artfully prepared, and served in super chic surroundings. Fumo’s speciality is its vast choice of Venice-inspired cicchetti small plates to share and swap with friends or family, along with its cocktail bar.
There are piatti da dividere, such as the fritto Portofino, named after a fishing village on the Italian Riviera, and featuring scallops and calamari, and a cold charcuterie platter, and the stuzzichini snacks and fritti fried street food include the likes of cheesy croquettes or Sicilian arancini.
There are salads and tartares, risottos and lots and lots of pasta dishes, such as classic spaghetti Carbonara and spinach and ricotta ravioli, and there are pizzas and calzone, with the dough made fresh on the premises, and pizza fritta – a traditional Neapolitan street food. Mama mia!
There’s also grilled fish and meats to choose from or, for authentically Italian dishes, think along the lines of pollo Milanese breadcrumbed chicken and cod with Calabrian ‘nduja spicy sausage and lentils.
San Carlo wouldn’t be San Carlo without a well-sourced wine list featuring the best of Italy and its islands, plus plenty of Prosecco and, of course, the makings of an Aperol Spritz or two.
